MPs Debate Regulation of Property Agents

Thursday 2nd July 2026, sees House of Commons sit from 09:30 am. The primary business will centre around oral questions to government ministers, the Business Statement, and backbench debates as follows:-
09:30 am: Oral questions to the Secretary of State for Business and Trade Peter Kyle
Following Trade Questions: Business Statement to the Leader of the House
Debate 1: Motion relating to the National Audit Office led by Keir Starmer
Debate 2: Backbench Business debate on Commonhold and leasehold reform and the regulation of property managing agents led by Florence Eshalomi
Debate 3: General debate on access to further education led by Sarah Pochin MP.
It is Debate 2 which will prove interesting, with social housing managers being required to gain professional qualifications starting this year and the first reading of the Managing Agents (Regulation) Bill on 16th July 2026 which includes a proposal for mandatory regulation of Managing Agents, the next in line is likely to be Estate Agents and Letting Agents.
The Committee’s recommendation is for Government to legislate to create a body with enforcement powers to regulate property managing agents.
It will be an interesting debate.
